Expert Answers about Chevrolet Lunette Ring

  • Torque For Installing Curt Lunette Ring to Channel Bracket
  • I reached out to Curt who gave me guidelines but said there wasn't a specific torque rating for the Curt Lunette Ring - Adjustable Channel Mount - 3" Diameter # C48660. They said in these cases just to go by the industry standard torque for the bolts used, which is 159 lb-ft. for the 5/8" Diameter x 5-1/2" long Grade 8 hex bolts from the Curt Bolt Kit for Adjustable Channel Mounted Lunette Rings # C48620. For channel mounts you will need either the Curt 3-Position Adjustable Channel Bracket...

  • It sounds like you are looking to replace a standard hitch ball style coupler for a lunette ring style trailer coupler like the Buyers Products 3-Position Adjustable Lunette Ring part # 337B20143 on a trailer. If that is the case, you will need to pick one out from the list below if the above does not work and then visit our dealer network link located on the product page for said coupler under the videos. I have attached a snip of this below. The old coupler will need to be cut from the...

  • Bolt Torque for Curt Lunette Ring - Flat Plate Mount - 2-1/2" Diameter - 35,000 lbs
  • The Curt Lunette Ring part # C48550 which is designed for a plate like the Curt Pintle Hook Mounting Plate part # C48239 does not come with mounting hardware. If you need this, I recommend the Curt Bolt Kit for Flat Mount Lunette Ring part # C48332. This kit comes with 5/8" Grade 8 Bolts which have a recommended torque of 159 ft. lbs. If you need a torque wrench for this, I recommend the Torque Wrench part # PT79FR.

  • How Tight Does the Curt Stud Mount Lunette Ring have to Be to Still Allow it to Swivel
  • You will want to be able to use the cotter pin to keep the nut in place on the Curt lunette ring # C48530. So it will need to be threaded in far enough for the pin to go through the shank of the ring to hold the nut on. Using flat washers will be fine as long as the nut can still thread on far enough.

  • How Does Curt Stud Mount Lunette Ring C48520 Install on a Trailer
  • The Curt lunette ring # C48520 would install through a hole at the front of the trailer (large enough for the shaft) and you would thread the nut on the other side far enough to put the cotter pin through so that the ring can rotate without the nut coming off. It is hard to picture without seeing it on a trailer. If you install this or a similar ring send us some pictures of the installation!

  • Different Configurations for the Titan Brake Actuator 20K for Drum Brakes
  • There are several different versions of the Titan Brake Actuator like bolt-on, part # T1664900. In regards to the attachment selection, there are multiple different options for this as well. The now discontinued T1055100 is with no attachment so you'd need to supply your own but it does come with a channel mount like part # T4856920, a lunette ring like part # T1297400, and a standard coupler like part # T2477600. There are also different finish and weight capacity options. If you can...

  • Purpose of Gen-Y Replacement Pintle Lock # 325-GH-032
  • The Replacement Pintle Lock # 325-GH-032 that you referenced is designed to be used with a Gen-Y adjustable ball mount like # 325-GH-504, which features multiple 2 inch receivers. The Pintle Lock slides in through the back of one of the 2" openings to create a pintle hitch for use with a lunette ring and a 2-5/16" ball. I'm not quite sure what you are referring to with regards to what ball shaft it will accept. The Pintle Lock is not designed to accept a hitch ball shaft. I have attached...

  • Question How Do Most Titan Model 10 Actuators Weld to Trailer
  • If you check out the picture I attached to this you'll see how one person welded on a Titan Model 10 like the part # T1607700 that you referenced. It really depends on the application though. Either way you'll need to find a qualified welder in your area to do the work. The coupler would be the correct kit for starting the conversion of the brake style on your trailer. For more info on this check out the FAQ article I attached on the subject.

  • Does Pintle Hook Latch Lock into Place When Couple to the Ball on Pintle Hook Combo C48200
  • If using a pintle hook combo such as # C48200 and coupling to the ball then the latch part would not be able to come down far enough to insert the pin to hold it in place which is fine because the coupler locks onto the ball. Looking through the other pintle/ball combos, see link, they all work in this same or a similar manner. The pin does hold that latch up when not in use.

  • Why Doesn't the Gen-Y Torsion Ball Mount Have Set Screws To Secure Ball and Pintle Latch?
  • The Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2-1/2" Hitch - 6" Drop/Rise - 32K # GY79FR is not an older model. It is a newer model that has the rounded portion that is like a ramp on the ball mount to help with the lunette ring where the older models didn't have that. There are some models that have the additional threaded holes you referenced but not all of them have that option. • Does Pintle Mounting Plate and Pintle Hook Need to be Removed After Use
  • I believe I know what you are asking and you should unhook your trailer instead of removing the entire unit from your hitch still hooked up to the trailer as it would be extremely difficult to get it back in your hitch. The Buyers Products 2" Pintle Hook Mount # 337PM90 would work great with the Buyers Products 15 Ton Pintle Hook # 337PH15, which you would need to install using Buyers Products Pintle/Combination Hitch Mounting Kit # 3378520. Just make sure you use it properly, unhooking...

  • Operation Details of The Draw-Tite Pintle Hook Combo # C48200
  • The Pintle Hook Combo # C48200 can be used for trailers that have a pintle hook setup that use a lunette ring, or for trailers that have a coupler and attach to a hitch ball. You cannot use the pintle to lock or secure the trailer to the hitch ball. To use the hitch ball, your trailer would need to have a 2-5/16 inch coupler to secure to the hitch ball. If you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, you will need to use Pintle Hook Mounting Plate, part # RP45294. If you have a 2 inch receiver,...

  • Trailer Surge Brake Coupler Operation
  • I am not sure what surge coupler you have on your ditch witch trailer, but I think I can help with the function. Surge brakes use the momentum of the vehicle and the hitch ball to activate stopping by pushing against the plunger of the master cylinder inside the coupler. This is like hitting a brake pedal. The amount of force is transferred into the braking pressure of the hydraulic brake system. So when pulling it has no pressure (like having your foot off the brake pedal) and when...
